Kim Bo-Eun

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore relationships among social network, death anxiety, and subjective health in community-dwelling older adults living in Seoul, South Korea.

Method: 112 people aged 65 or over with intact cognitive function were recruited from several places such as community health center. A structured questionnaires used to collect data including general characteristics, disease characteristics, social network, death anxiety, and subjective health. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and partial correlation coefficient controlling for Charlson Comorbidity Index.

Result: There was a positive correlation between social network and subjective health (r=.186, p=.049) as well as a negative correlation between death anxiety and subjective health (r=-.323, p=.001). The higher social network was related to higher subjective health and the higher death anxiety was linked to lower subjective health.

Conclusion: Based on these results, we should develop an intervention program and policy which strengthen social network and reduce death anxiety for improving subjective health in community-dwelling older adults.
